Massachusetts foreclosure petitions jumed by over 70% in 2006, as the state's housing market had its worst year in more than a decade, with both the number of home sales and the median price for single family homes dropping to levels not seen in over 10 years. The result has been an ever increasing number of bank owned properties on the market. The number of bank owned mortgage foreclosures is expected to increase as the US Government TARP properties make their way into the Massachusetts real estate market.
